College Profile
“Realising Potential”
The Irish College of Humanities and Applied Sciences is an independent third level college that prides itself on its student centred approach. ICHAS has offered counselling courses in Ireland for more than ten years as the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Institute of Ireland, and has now expanded into childcare and continuous professional development. ICHAS provides an academic environment that fosters personalised learning, enabling participants to develop their potential for life and for exciting careers in their chosen area. All ICHAS programmes are accredited by either the Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC) in the case of our degree courses, and the Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) in relation to the programmes offered at Levels 5 and 6 of the National Framework of Qualifications.
Programmes are designed to meet the needs of modern students, accommodating learners who wish to study either part time or full time. Many ICHAS programmes utilise blended learning, which combines traditional face-to-face lecturing with online learning. This greatly reduces the need for travel and allows learners to work at a pace that suits them. Blended learning is available in many of our courses throughout Ireland. The ICHAS Portal also allows learners on some programmes to attend their lectures virtually, eliminating much of the travel for many classes altogether, and allowing students to study from the comfort of their own home.

Irish College of Humanities and Applied Sciences (ICHAS)
ICHAS evolved from the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Institute of Ireland, which was founded in 1999, offering counselling courses throughout Ireland mainly in Counselling & Psychotherapy. In 2011, NCPII expanded to offer a range of new programmes in a greater number of disciplines under the name of the Irish College of Humanities and Applied Sciences. ICHAS offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes as well as opportunities for continuing education in a number of areas throughout Ireland, including counselling courses, childcare courses and business programmes, among others. All ICHAS programmes have been developed through an innovative curriculum based on principles of integrative learning and teaching.
The academic staff at ICHAS have a wide and varied level of national and international expertise. The college prides itself on the fact that many academics maintain an active practice base while engaged in teaching, adding to their credibility and enhancing the overall value of the student experience.
At the Irish College of Humanities and Applied Sciences we believe that all students can achieve their full potential, and we are fully committed to supporting learners on this journey – Our motto reflects this ethos – At ICHAS, we are a college that is focused on ‘Realising Potential’
